Things I Actually Like
I write about a lot of serious things whether it’s business, women in tech, feelings, and so on. People have shared this blog touched them and made them cry. But sometimes a girl just wants to have…fun. So I thought I’d act like the semi-influencer I seem to be and share some things I actually like. In this age of consumerism, one can try to resist and remember that things don’t actually make one happy. OR….hear me out…one can buy these things that actually make me happy. Just saying.

Personal Loves
Just hopping on the old bandwagon. This stuff is truly delightful for the lips. As not much of a lipstick wearer, this can be a go-to for days and nights. I’ve tried multiple “flavors”, and they are generally good but watch out for Gummy Bears. That one smells…distinctive. Deal alert: Sometimes also available at your local Marshalls/TJMaxx!
I have so many things from Cotopaxi, an outdoor company with a soul and a lot of color. This backpack. This cosmetics bag. This bag. Also check out the jackets. Huge fan.
I love a good pen, and this is like a marker pen. Chef’s kiss. Good for doodling during meetings, pretending to look super serious. Expensive for markers? Yes, but when you write with these, YOU WILL FEEL EXPENSIVE. Double chef’s kiss. Put them on your wish list. Hide them from the kids.
Retro Cat Vintage Sign
Is this necessary? LOL, no. But does it make me happy to look at it in my office everyday. Muahhaaaaaahaaa. It’s the little things.
I have three pairs of these shoes in different colors. They are just the perfect shoe for me. Perfect on cold days, but breathable on unexpectedly warm days. The heel can bend to lie flat and be a slipper y’all. I bought the cream ones, and I consider them ‘glam’ for those days when I want to pretend I am classy enough to wear white.
Jellycat Wiley Whale Stuffed Animal
OK, I haven’t bought this one yet, but I know it would make me happy. Jellycat stuffies never fail.
Yes, I have made fun of these. But when your kid’s feet are growing rapidly, and they seem to destroy every other shoe? Well done, Crocs. There are some knock-offs that are super cute too, but I’m sharing some glitter Crocs to give them the credit they deserve. By the way, the cool kids are wearing these in middle school right now. I’m serious.
In this age of fast fashion and the aforementioned consumerism, my saving grace has been businesses like Mercari that allow me to reuse, recycle, etc. With Mercari, I have both bought things secondhand and sold things we no longer wanted. It’s been great for clothing that the kids grow too quickly out of or we never really wore. Resale value on Patagonia, North Face, and similar brands is quite good. It does take a bit of time to post and sell your items, but you get the hang of it and they make it pretty easy (provide shipping labels, etc.). I’m a fan.

Book Business Loves
I’ve repeatedly purchased stickers from Sticker Mule to promote The Adventures of Women in Tech. Their quality is great, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. I’ve also gotten keychains and packing tape. The best thing is that each week they do a zany sale where, for instance, you can get 50 stickers for $29 instead of $100+. Highly recommend especially when you’re experimenting on a shoestring budget.

Given I use a Chromebook for all of my book business, I had to find an online graphics program. I found Canva years ago, and they just keep getting better and better. All sort of formats, graphics, etc in one place. You can now have teams work together. Leverage their partnerships for printing, stickers, etc., And now make videos. ALL IN ONE. Exuberance!!! Note: The offering does varies between billing plans (Free, Pro, Teams).
